Mein diesjähriger Sommer-Urlaubs-Vlog enthält Eindrücke aus Kappeln und von Sylt, eine Zeitreise in die Vergangenheit, einen Besuch bei Morsumer Schafen, Einblicke, was so strick- und spinnmäßig in den letzten Monaten fertig geworden ist, einen Besuch im Sylt Museum in Keitum mit Sprach-Crashkurs für StrickerInnen, einem Eklat bei Sylter Straßenmusikern und ein paar meiner wenigen Seilspring-Fortschritte. - Infobox über Youtube.

"Ocean Machine" Stirnband - Mein erstes Projekt aus meiner eigenen handgesponnenen Wolle

* "Ocean Machine" - Mein erstes Projekt aus meiner eigenen handgesponnenen Wolle aus einem Corriedale-Kammzug, 3-fädig verzwirnt. Das Strickmuster ist "Doppelzentimeterband" aus “Überlieferte Strickmuster aus dem steirischen Ennstal” Teil 1.

* "Ocean Machine" - My first project made from my own handspun wool from a Corriedale combed top, 3-ply. The stitch pattern is "Doppelzentimeterband" from "Überlieferte Strickmuster aus dem steirischen Ennstal" part 1.

Ennstal Pullunder "Trillian Astra"

* Die Mustersammlung "Überlieferte Strickmuster aus dem steirischen Ennstal" in drei Teilen hatte ich mir bereits 2012 gekauft. Bis auf ein kleines Armband hatte ich jedoch nichts aus den Büchern gestrickt, weil die Strickschriften etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig sind.

* I had already bought the stitch pattern book "Überlieferte Strickmuster aus dem steirischen Ennstal" in three parts in 2012. Apart from a small bracelet, however, I had not knitted anything from the books because the charts take a bit of getting used to.
 

* Schon lange wollte ich mal etwas Größeres mit den Mustern stricken. Das konnte ich nun endlich in die Tat umsetzen.

* For a long time I wanted to knit something larger from the stitch patterns. I was finally able to put this into practice.

* Der Pullunder hätte von der Passform an den Schultern noch ewas besser sein können, ich denke, ich werde an den Bündchen der Armausschnitte auch noch einen Gummizug durchziehen. Im Großen und Ganzen bin ich aber zufrieden.

* The fit of the slipover could have been a bit better at the shoulders, I think I will add an elastic band to the ribbing of the armholes. But all in all, I am satisfied.

Good Vibrations Socken/Socks (Anleitung/Pattern "Hattu")

* Diese Socken sind ein Geschenk für eine liebe Freundin, die eine sehr schwere Zeit durchmacht. Deswegen heißen sie "Good Vibrations" weil ich ihr genau diese mit den Socken übersenden möchte. Die Wolle ist eine wunderschöne Färbung von Alte Künste. Und grün ist ja auch die Farbe der Hoffnung. Hoffnung können wir alle immer gebrauchen, insbesondere in schweren Zeiten!
Das Sockengeschenk habe ich mit meinen selbstgemachten Wachssiegeln verziert. 

* These socks are a gift for a dear friend who is going through very difficult times. Therefore, they are called "Good Vibrations". I want to send her such vibrations with the socks. The wool is a beautiful dye from Alte Künste. And green is also the colour of hope. All of us can always make use of hope, especially in difficult times!
I decorated the sock gift with my homemade wax seals.

* Ende November 2021 habe ich diesen Pullover begonnen und Anfang Oktober 2022 fertiggestellt. Es war mir beim Anschlagen schon klar, dass das wieder ein laaanges Projekt sein würde. Das hat mich jedoch nicht gestört. Irgendwann wird so ein Pullover fertig. Zwischendurch hatte ich auch andere Dinge gemacht: Wieder mal mit Perlen gewebt, das Nadelfilzen begonnen (was ich durchaus fortsetzen möchte) und in das Holzschnitzen reingeschnuppert (und festgestellt, dass das eher nichts für mich ist). Kontinuierlich habe ich an diesem Pullover gearbeitet, auch wenn es manchmal einfach nur eine Reihe war. 

* I started this jumper at the end of November 2021 and finished it at the beginning of October 2022. Of course, I already knew that this would be another loooong project when I started. But that did not bother me. A jumper like this will be finished at some point. In the meantime I also did other things: Beadweaving again, started needle felting (which I would like to continue) and tried wood carving (and found out that it is not really for me). Continuously I worked on this jumper, even if it was sometimes just one row. 

* Der Pullover ist "Grima" von Elsebeth Lavold. Ich nenne meine Version Elen of the Ways nach einer weiblichen Sagengestalt, die ein Geweih trägt. Das finde ich passend, da die Wollfarbe "red deer" ("Rotwild") heißt und mich auch das Muster an ein Geweih erinnert.

* The jumper is "Grima" by Elsebeth Lavold. I call my version Elen of the Ways after a female mythical figure who wears antlers. I think it is suitable because the wool colour is called "red deer" and the pattern also reminds me of antlers.

Samhain-(Halloween-)Edition

* A propos geweihtragende Sagengestalt ... Hier sind noch ein paar Fotos aus der "Samhain-(Halloween-)Edition". Die Julbock-Maske ist von der schwedischen Künstlerin Bella Granlund, die ganze Julbock-Kostüme von Hand fertigt. Der Julbock brachte unter anderem in den nordischen Ländern früher die Geschenke und könnte entfernt verwandt mit unserem Knecht Ruprecht sein.

* Speaking of the antlered mythical figure ... Here are a few more photos from the "Samhain-(Halloween-)Edition". The Yule goat mask is by the Swedish artist Bella Granlund, who crafts complete Yule goat costumes. The Yule goat used to bring presents in the Nordic countries and might be distantly related to our Knecht Ruprecht.

 

Handschuhe "Herwodis" * Gloves "Herwodis"

 

* Diese Handschuhe bestehen aus einem Muster des Pullovers "Irish Moss" sowie aus einem Muster der "Chalet Socks"-Socken. Es ist schwierig für meine Winz-Hände eine passende Hanschuhanleitung zu finden, daher musste ich mir selbst etwas ausdenken. Ich wollte mal wieder Zopfmuster stricken, nachdem ich mich zuvor vermehrt am Farbstricken versucht hatte. Die Wolle ist ein Rest der Sockenwolle (Sockenwolle 4-fach "Wüstensonne") von Alte Künste, aus der ich schon meine "Neowise"-Socken strickte.

* These gloves are made from a pattern of the "Irish Moss" jumper and a pattern of the "Chalet Socks" socks. It is difficult to find a fitting gloves pattern for my tiny hands, so I had to come up with something myself. I wanted to knit cable patterns again after I had tried a lot of colour knitting before. The wool is a remnant of the sock wool (sock wool 4-ply "Wüstensonne") from Alte Künste, from which I already knitted my "Neowise" socks.

Kettlebell Halswärmer / Kettlebell Dickey

 

* Mit diesem Projekt habe ich 2 Hobbies von mir vereint: Die Kettlebells und das Stricken. Auf der Basis der Anleitung namens "Sanna Dickey" von Arne & Carlos habe ich mein eigenes Farbmuster mit Kettlebells entworfen. Danke an Arne & Carlos für die tolle Anleitung, die ich als Basis benutzt habe.

* I have combined 2 hobbies of mine with this project: Kettlebells and knitting. Based on the knitting pattern called "Sanna Dickey" by Arne & Carlos I created my own colour pattern with kettlebells. Thanks to Arne & Carlos for the great instructions, which I used as a basis.

Mustjala Handschuhe - Fabstricken üben * Mustjala gloves - pracising stranded knitting

 

* Diese Handschuhe hatte ich bereits im Februar 2021 begonnen. Ich wollte mal wieder Farbstricken üben. Ich hatte zuvor schon mit 2 Farben gestrickt, aber oft war ich mit dem Ergebnis nicht ganz so zufrieden. An den Handschuhen habe ich die ein oder andere Technik ausprobiert. Dadurch ist es natürlich wieder nicht super gleichmäßig geworden. Ich hoffe jedoch, dass ich in Bezug auf das Farbstricken (stranded knitting) etwas gelernt habe ...

* I had already started these gloves in February 2021. I wanted to practise colour knitting again. I had knitted with 2 colours before, but oftentimes I was not that happy with the results. I tried one or the other technique on the gloves. So, of course, it has not turned out quite even again. However, I hope that I have learned something regarding stranded knitting ...

* Inspiriert sind die Handschuhe durch ein Muster aus dem oben gezeigten Buch "Ornamented Journey". Handschuhanleitungen sind war keine enthalten, aber Fotos von wunderschönen Handschuhen sowie eine Handvoll Muster. Dieses Muster heißt "Mustjala" und es gefällt mir sehr.

* The gloves are inspired by a stitch pattern from the book "Ornamented Journey" shown above. There are no glove instructions included, but photos of beautiful gloves and a handful of stitch patterns. This stitch pattern is called "Mustjala" and I like it a lot.

Airlann Socken ("Cleave" / Hunter Hammersen)

 

* Diese Socken sind ein Geschenk für eine Freundin, die wahrscheinlich (und hoffentlich) diesen Blog nicht liest. Und hoffentlich (und wahrscheinlich) passen ihr die Socken dann auch ... Nachtrag: Ja, sie passen ihr wie hier zu sehen!

* These socks are a gift for a friend who probably (and hopefully) does not read this blog. And hopefully (and probably) the socks will fit her ... Followup: Yes, the fit her es you can see here.

* Die Konstruktion ist recht interessant. Die Designerin schreibt: 

"Diese Socken beginnen wie eine Standard-Socke von oben nach unten, aber die Dinge nehmen eine kleine Wendung, wenn Sie zur Ferse kommen. Anstatt die Hälfte der Maschen beiseite zu legen und auf der anderen Hälfte eine Fersenklappe zu stricken, arbeiten Sie weiter in der Runde und nehmen am Anfang und in der Mitte der Runde zu, um die Fersenwand und den Zwickel zu bilden. Dann wechseln Sie zur Reihenarbeit, um die Ferse zu wenden und einen Teil der Sohle zu stricken. Zum Schluss arbeiten Sie wieder in der Runde, um den Fuß abzuschließen." 

Klingt kompliziert, ist es aber nicht, man muss jedoch ein wenig mehr aufpassen als bei einer "normalen" Socke. Vielleicht auch einfach nur, weil es ungewohnt ist.

* The construction is quite interesting. The designer writes:
"These socks start out like a standard top-down sock, but things take a little twist when you get to the heel. Instead of setting half the stitches aside and working a heel flap on the other half, you’ll keep working in the round, increasing at the beginning and midpoint of the round to form the heel flap and gusset. Then you’ll switch to working in rows to turn the heel and work a bit of the sole. Finally, you’ll resume working in the round again to finish off the foot."

It may sound complicated but it is not. However, you must pay a little bit more attention in comparsion to knitting a "normal" sock. Perhaps simply because it is unfamiliar.

Aus dem Tagebuch einer Strickerin ...

 The bigger the failure the greater the lesson

* Die letzten Monate hatte ich beim Stricken wenig Glück. Ein Lochmusterprojekt endete (mal wieder) in einer "Katastrophe". Bei Zöpfen geht wenig schief, dachte ich. Die Zöpfe selbst sind auch kein Problem. Auch meine Änderung zu einem Rollkragen hätte geklappt. Aber meine Befürchtung, die ich von Anfang an hatte, hat sich bewahrheitet: Ich kriege den provisorischen Anschlag (weißer Faden unten) nicht mehr auf. Die erste Runde besteht aus recht exotischen Maschen ("wrapped knot stitches"). Und die kriege ich jetzt nicht mehr auf die Nadel, ohne Maschen zu verlieren, um unten mit einem Rippenmuster abzuschließen ... Zum Glück ist es nur Restewolle ... Es sollte ein Schulterwärmer werden. Auf zu neuen Projekten ...

* Within the last few months I did not have much luck knittingwise. A lace project ended (again) in a "catastrophe". I thought cables are not so prone to mistakes. The cables themselves are not the problem. Also my amendment to a turtleneck would have worked out. But the fears I had from the beginning have come true: I cannot undo the provisional cast on (white thread at bottom). The first round consists of quite exotic stitches ("wrapped knot stitches"). And I cannot get them onto the needle now without losing stitches in order to finish off with ribbing ... Fortunately, this is only wool remnants ... It should have become a shoulder warmer. Onto new projects ...

Handschuhe "Faramir" / Gloves "Faramir"

 

* Diese Handschuhe für Frank sind schon im alten Jahr fertig geworden. Da wir im November/Dezember (als ich sie strickte) wieder Herr der Ringe und Hobbit geschaut haben, nenne ich sie "Faramir".

* I have finished these gloves for Frank already in the old year. As we watched The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit again in November/December (when I knitted these), I call them "Faramir".

* Die Anleitung ist "Moss Cabled Gloves" von Veridian Design Team. Beim Kauf hatte ich nicht darauf geachtet, dass die Anleitung nur Text statt Strickschrift enthielt. Zum Glück ist der Zopf ja nicht so kompliziert, so dass ich ihn mir selbst in Strickschrift übertragen habe. Durcheinander gekommen bin ich auch beim 2. Handschuh beim Rippenmuster (merke: Nicht beim Hobbit stricken), aber das konnte ich gut beheben.

* The pattern is "Moss Cabled Gloves" by Veridian Design Team. When buying, I had not paid attention to the fact that the instructions contains only text but no chart. Fortunately, the cable is not that complicated. Hence, I could transcribe it to a chart. I got confused with the ribbing pattern with the second glove (note to self: Don't knit while watching The Hobbit), but I could remedy my errors.
