* Ansonsten hatte ich keine Anleitung im herkömmlichen Sinne. Ich habe die Abnahmen für den Beinbereich beim Stricken "on the fly" vorgenommen, eine runde Ferse gestrickt und die Sternenspitze gemacht, die ich schon länger machen wollte.

* Apart from that, I did not have any instructions in the traditional sense. I have made the leg decreases "on the fly", knitted a round heel and made the star toe which I had wanted to make for a long time.

"Serab" for a friend

 

* Diese Socken habe ich für eine Freundin und begabte Lehrerin gestrickt. Mir sind sie ein klein wenig zu groß, aber die Beschenkte hatte einen Strumpf bereits anprobiert, von daher werden sie ihr passen.

"Neowise" Socken ("Senneh")

* Was macht man, wenn man keinen Platz mehr für selbstgestrickte Pullis hat? Man fängt an mit Sockenstricken. Eigentlich ist das Sockenstricken das Reich meiner 97-jährigen Oma. Da sie aber keine Mustersocken mehr strickt, bin ich für sie wohl keine Konkurrenz ... Außerdem ist im Jahr 2020 sowieso alles anders!

* What do you do when you do not have any more space for hand-knitted sweaters? You start knitting socks. Knitting socks is actually the realm of my 97-year old grandmother. However, since she does not knit any textured socks, I am surely no rival ... Furthermore, this year (2020) everything is different anyways!

* Ich nenne die Socken "Neowise" weil mich das Muster an einen wandernden Kometen erinnert.

Glatisant / das Aventür / the questing beast (Kniestrümpfe "Zum Dirndl")

 

 Anleitung / Pattern: "Zum Dirndl"

* Warum sie "Glatisant" heißen:
Es waren in der Herstellung widerspenstige Kniestrümpfe - daher nenne ich diese Socken/Kniestrümpfe Glatisant, das Aventürentier/Questebiest.
Es waren nach Jahren mal wieder meine ersten Socken und die ersten Kniestrümpfe "toe-up" überhaupt. Die Kombination der Muster ist wunderschön und die Strickschriften selbst enthalten keine Fehler. Die Anleitung war mir allerdings oft zu mysteriös (mehr dazu auf der Ravelry-Seite zu diesem Projekt, auch hinsichtlich der Anpassungen, die ich gemacht habe, z. B. kürzer wegen meinen kurzen Beinchen). Vieles war merkwürdig, insbesondere die Angabe zur Weite des Spanns und dass die Maschenprobe keine Angabe zu den Reihen enthielt (Notiz an mich selbst: Stricke nie wieder etwas, wo diese Angabe fehlt). Weiterhin bin ich mit der Sockenwolle nicht zufrieden. Sie splittet sich unheimlich und ist daher für Zopfmuster eher ungeeignet. Da ich nicht so ein "Softie" bin, ist sie mir viel zu weich und es pillt wie Hölle.

* Why I call these "Glatisant":
They were unruly socks to knit - this is the reason why I call these socks/stockings  Glatisant, the questing beast.
These were my first socks in years and the first toe-up stockings at all. The combination of the stitch patterns is beautiful and the charts do not contain any mistakes. The instructions itself were kinda mysterious to me though (see more on my ravelry project page, also on amendments for example how I made them shorter for my short legs). A lot of things were just strange including the indication of the width of the "Spann" (instep) and that no row gauge was given (note to self: Never knit something again when now row gauge is given). Additionally, I am not satisfied with the yarn. It splits very fast and therefore is not so suitable for knitting cables. As I am not such a "softie" it is much too soft for me and pills like hell. 

Professor Severus Snape (Fimo)

* Professor Severus Snape ist neben Hagrid und Luna Lovegood eine meiner Lieblingsfiguren aus den Harry-Potter-Büchern, die mich erst 2019 "verzaubert" haben. Ich habe mich nach etlichen Jahren mal wieder an Fimo versucht und auch zum ersten Mal eine Figur mit einem Körper, der nicht nur rund ist, modelliert.

* Professor Severus Snape is one of my favourite characters of the Harry Potter books alongside Hagrid and Luna Lovegood. The books have enchanted me not until 2019. After several years, I have tried my hands on Fimo modelling clay again and have shaped a figure with a body which is not only ball-shaped.

* Stark inspiriert hat mich der Blogeintrag von Miss Kawaii. Ihren Snape kann und will ich mit meinem Snape nicht vergleichen. Mein Snape ist eher traurig als bösartig, so wie ich ihn auch im Laufe der Bücher "kennengelernt" habe. Außerdem bin ich bei meiner Figur noch nicht so zufrieden mit den Schuhen und den Armen ...

* I was heavily inspired by the blog entry of Miss Kawaii. I cannot compare my Snape with hers and far be it from her Snape. My Snape is rather sad than malevolent just as I "got to know" him in the course of reading the books. Besides, I am not that satisfied with the shoes and arms of my figure.

* Ich habe kürzlich einige Harry-Potter-Fanfictions gelesen, viele mit Snape als Hauptfigur. In einer Geschichte war Snape ein großer David-Bowie-Fan. Ich denke, er hat schon einen Hang zu düsterer Musik, daher habe ich ihn vor "Postern" seiner Lieblingsalben fotografiert ("Turn Loose the Swans" von My Dying Bride / "Let love in" von Nick Cave & the bad Seeds / "Lock up the Wolves" von DIO). Natürlich sind sie alle vor seinem Tod 1998 herausgekommen ... ;)

Ein Fanfiction der mir besonders gefällt heißt "I Know Not, and I Cannot Know; Yet I Live and I Love" von billowsandsmoke. Man sollte die Geschichte aber nur lesen, wenn man alle Bücher gelesen/gehört hat. Dasselbe gilt ebenfalls für den nicht spoilerfreien, empfehlenswerten, sehr lustigen ("romantisierend angenehemen") Podcast Hagrids Hütte, den wir momentan sehr gerne hören.

* Recently, I have read some of the Harry Potter fanfictions, mostly with Snape as the main character. In one of these stories Snape is a huge David Bowie fan. One of the fanfictions I particularly like is "I Know Not, and I Cannot Know; Yet I Live and I Love" by billowsandsmoke. However, you should only read the story when you have read/listened to all the books.

Rückblick/Throwback: Inishmore Sweater

* Rückblick: Vor 8 Jahren strickte ich zwischen April und September einen Aran-Pullover: "Inishmore" aus "Fishermen's Sweaters" von Alice Starmore. Natürlich ist er aus meiner geliebten "Starmore-Wolle" gestrickt - Hebridean 3 ply, Farbe Storm Petrel. Was ich so an dieser Wolle mag ist, dass verschiedene Schattierungen miteinander vermischt sind und somit ein einzigartiger, "changierender" Farbeindruck entsteht.

* Throwback: 8 years ago between April and September I knitted an aran sweater: "Inishmore" from "Fishermen's Sweaters" by Alice Starmore. Of course, I knitted it from my beloved "Starmore wool" - Hebridean 3 ply, colour Storm Petrel. What I like so much about this wool is that it is blended into various shades resulting in a unique shimmering color impression.

* Der Pulli sieht auch heute noch so aus wie auf den Fotos. Es ist keine Knötchenbildung oder irgendein anderer Alterungsprozess zu sehen. Und ich trage ihn im Winter oft.

* The sweater still looks as good as on the photos. No pilling or any other ageing process is visible. And I wear it often in winter times.

* Kurze Zeit nach dem ich endlich stricken konnte, war für mich klar, dass ich Zöpfe stricken möchte. Ziemlich schnell habe ich dann auch meinen ersten einfachen Zopfmusterpulli nach Anleitung von meiner Mutter gestrickt. Etwas später kamen einige Lochmustertücher, aber Zöpfe haben mich nie losgelassen und werden es wohl auch nicht mehr. Irgendwann stricke ich nochmal einen Aran-Pullover ...

* Shortly after I was finally able to knit, it was clear to me that I want to knit cables. Quite quickly, I knitted my first simple cabled jumper according to my mum's instructions. A little bit after that I made a copule of lace shawls. But cable patterns will never cease to fascinate me. Some day I will knit another Aran Sweater ...

"Beerenfreude" (Kopfbedeckung/Turban batiken)

* Ich habe ein weiteres Tuch für den Kopf (Turban) gefärbt. Dieses ist nur 3m lang - das zuvor gezeigte blaue Tuch war 4m lang, die ersten Turbantücher, die ich gebunden, habe sogar 5m lang. 3m ist prima für meinen Mini-Kopf! Dieses Mal habe ich eine "Röhren-Färbung" sowie einen Farbverlauf probiert.

* I have dyed another headwrap fabric (Turban). This one is 3m in length only. The previous blue fabric was 4m in length, the first turban fabrics I wrapped around my head were even 5m long. 3m is perfect for my tiny head! This time I have tried out "tube dyeing" as well as a colour gradient.

* "Wie bindet man eigentlich einen Turban?" Auf solche und ähnliche Fragen kommt man wahrscheinlich nur im Lockdown, wenn man mehr Zeit hat als vorher, sich über so etwasGedanken zu machen ... ;) Nach den ersten Versuchen und Recherche im Internet fand ich das richtige Material und 2 schöne Stoffe in lebendigen Farben. Allerdings sind sie für meinen Mini-Kopf und meinen Geschmack zu lang geraten. Daher mussten nochmal Stoffe in einer kürzeren Länge her: "Aber in welchen Farben? Ich habe doch mal Wolle gefärbt. Vielleicht kann ich mir die Stoffe ja auch nach Belieben färben?"

* "How do you tie a turban?" Questions like these probably occur only in lockdown, when you have more time to think about such things ... ;) After the first attempts and internet searches, I found the right material and 2 beautiful fabrics in vibrant colours. However, for my tiny head and for my liking they have turned out too long. Therefore I needed fabrics with shorther lengths: "But what colours should I choose? Long time ago, I dyed wool. Maybe I can dye the fabrics to my liking."

* Gesagt, getan! Videos über Bindebatiken und Shibori angeschaut - faszinierende Möglichkeiten eröffnen sich da - und das erste Experiment gestartet. Ich bin mit dem Ergebnis mehr als zufrieden. Dazu ist es eine ziemlich praktische Kopfbedeckung, denn sie schützt vor Sonne und wird nicht gleich bei Wind weggeweht. Und wenn man eh mit seinen Haaren auf Kriegsfuß steht, ist das zwar eine außergewöhnliche aber elegante Kopfverschönerung.

* A word and a blow! Watched videos on tie dyeing and shibori - fascinating possibilities have been opening up - and started the first experiment. I am more than satisfied with the result. Additionally, it is quite a practical head covering as it protects the head from the sun and is not blown away by the wind so quickly. And if you are having a hard time with your hairdo anyway, it is a rather extraordinary but elegant head embellishment.

Elesebeth Lavold's "Arnhild"

* Das ist der Pullover "Arnhild" aus dem Buch "Viking Knits" von Elsebeth Lavold. Garnverbrauch: 251g Jamieson & Smith 2ply Jumper Weight, Farbe: 134.

* Die Bündchen an Vorder- und Rückenteil sowie an den Ärmeln sind statt kraus rechts als Rippenmuster gestrickt. Wie viele Maschen ich dafür aufgenommen habe und nachher abgenommen habe, kann man auf der Projektseite bei Ravelry lesen.

* The front, back and sleeve cuffs are knitted in ribbing intead of garter stitch. How I made the amendments can be read on my project page on ravelry.

"Tiefe des Herzens" (Tesbih)

* Die Mala "Expecto Patronum" habe ich an meine Cousine verschenkt und die Tesbih "Herzensgeheimnis" hatte ich auf Wunsch gefertigt. Daher musste jetzt noch eine Kette für mich selbst her. 

* I have gifted the mala "Expecto Patronum" to my cousin and I have made the Tesbih by request. Therefore, I had to craft a necklace for myself. 

* Für mich ist es auch wieder eine Kette mit 99 Perlen (eine Art Tesbih) geworden. Die dunkelroten Perlen sind Granatperlen.

* The necklace for me has become one with 99 beads (a kind of Tesbih) again. The dark red beads are garnet beads.

"Herzensgeheimnis" (Tesbih)

* Kette, eine Art Tesbih, auf Wunsch mit 99 Perlen. Farben ebenfalls größtenteils nach Wunsch ausgesucht. Als Geschenk für jemanden, der mir sehr am Herzen 💖 liegt.

* Necklace, some kind of tesbih, with 99 beads by request. Colours chosen mainly as desired from that person, too. It will be a gift for someone near and dear to me 💖 (a mentor I have known for quite a while now).

Die Sandelholzperlen gefallen mir so gut, dass ich mir damit auch eine Kette mit 99 Perlen und machen werde. Weitere Farbe wird granatrot/dunkelrot sein.

*  I like the sandalbeads so much that I will make another one for me with 99 beads of mostly sandalbeads as well. The other colour will be garnet red/dark red.

"Expecto Patronum" Mala

* Es gibt Tage, da kommen die Dementoren und saugen alles Glück aus Körper und Seele. Dann ist es gut, wenn man einen "Beschützer" zur Hand hat.

* There are times, when dementors appear and suck all the happiness from our body and soul. Then you are lucky when you have a "protector" at hand. 

* Ich finde Malas vom Aussehen ganz schön und man kann sie auch ab und an zum Meditieren verwenden, z. B. bei der Konzentration auf den Atem. Das Verknoten/Knüpfen ist allerdings gar nicht so einfach, der Knoten soll ja schön nah an der jeweiligen Perle angebracht werden. So wird schon das Machen zu einer Art Meditation ...

*  I quite like the look of Malas and you can use them every now and then for meditating, e.g. for concentrating on the breath. However, knotting is not that easy. The knot should be made pretty close to each bead. So, making the mala is a kind of meditation already ... 

* Mala aus 6mm Holzperlen, in der Mitte der jeweils 2 hellblauen 6mm Achate je ein 6mm Lapislazuli (27. Perle auf jeder Seite) und in der Mitte der Kette je 2 Stück 8mm Lapislazuli (53. Perle auf jeder Seite) und 2 Stück 6mm hellblaue Achate (54. Perle auf jeder Seite) Außerdem 4mm und 6mm Lapislazuli an der Quaste.

* Mala from 6mm wooden beads, in the middle of the two 2 light blue 6mm agates one 6mm Lapislazuli, respectively (27th bead on each side), and in the center of the mala 2 pieces of 8mm Lapislazuli, respectively (53rd bead on each side), and 2 pieces of 6mm light blue agates (54th bead on each side). Furthermore 4mm and 6mm Lapislazuli on the tassel.
