Wellenreiten am Weststrand (Armreif)

"You and I are all as much continuous with the physical universe
as a wave is continuous with the ocean."
- Alan Watts

* This is my "Surfriding at Weststrand" bangle according to the pattern "Kanagawa Waves" by Cath Thomas. However, it is made from the smaller Delicas (15/0).

* Cath Thomas has created the smaller horns in such a way that they mimic the mountains in the "Kangawa Waves" drawing. In my bangle, the small horns are waves as well.

* Now the North Sea is always with me ... ;)

Materials:
ca. 10g of 15/0 Delicas colour number 2
ca. 2g of 15/0 Delicas colour number 861
ca. 1.2 g of 15/0 Delicas colour number 38
ca. 0.6g of 15/0 Delicas colour number 201

Carribean Colours

* I have to say that I prefer the North Sea. However, the "carribean colours" of the Baltic Sea are quite beautiful as well.

* Speaking of the sea - the "Kanagawa Waves" bangle by Cath Thomas is still in progress. I have not had much time for it within the last couple of day. Some of you may have seen this picture already on instagram.

Successful Experiment - Ziltoidia 9

* The experiment was successful. I am satisfied with the bangle. It is not perfect and I had planned it to be a totally different bangle. The Contemporary Geometric Beadwork books cropped up and the curiosity about "horns". Sometimes you have have to allow it to develop ...

* And now I am also able to decrease the horns without changing the bead count ...

Horn Experiments

* Having devoured the Contemporary Geometric Beadwork books (see previous entry), I had to try out "horns". Somehow my bead count has been reduced after "closing" the horns. It is not that tragic since the bangle has become much too large again. So it is ok that the diameter has been diminished. I decided to go with the "flow" now and continue diminishing the diameter - with the smaller 15/0 Delicas (see below). And so I will try to keep the bead count this time after a few "horns". Besides, I have ordered beads for the "Kanagawa Wave". It will be different from the original ...

Contemporary Geometric Beadwork Vol. I and II and first (part of) bangle

* Endlich sind DIE Bücher gekommen! Contemporary Geometric Beadwork Band I und II.

* Finally, THE books have arrived! Contemporary Geometric Beadwork Volume I and II. I already wrote briefly about them in the previous blog entry. I ordered them with DiMarca in France and they took a while but they are in excellent condition and include a surprise bead mix, original signatures from Kate, the US-based author, a postcard etc.
https://beadmobile.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/basics.pdf

* The books contain the basic techniques you require in order to develop your own creations. They do not necessarily contain the patterns of the pictured works of art. At first glance, these works of art do appear a little bit odd. However, the books include a few photos showing how they look like when they are worne. And I must admit that I was surprised about how cool they look then. Here you can take a look at the fundamental basics of the first volume: https://beadmobile.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/basics.pdf

* I am totally in love with the bangle "Kanagawa Wave" by Cath Thomas from the 2nd volume. You can download the pattern for free on Craftsy. How cool is that?

* And here is my first bangle ever. It is intended to be the first part of a larger bangle. The techniques from the books have not yet been implented in this one. That is why it is not as artistic. But in the course of the year I will hopefully be able to make time for tinkering around with the techniques from the books.

MRAW as peyote starter strip

* The seed bead world has been offering me a lot of inspiration recently. Quite a bit has happened since my "absence". Especially, I have gotten inspired by a lot of bangles I have seen online. So, I have planned to start a bangle but I know that the first two rows of peyote with a bunch of beads can be difficult. But then I remembered that the Peyote Starter Strip can be helpful in this case. However, I have also discovered the books and the website called Contemporary Geometric Beadwork. I have ordered the books but I have only the digital versions at hand currently. In the books the MRAW bellyband is described. And I thought why not practise this technique and use it as something like a peyote starter strip at the same time.

* It has turned out that the beginning of the bangle has become too wide. Plus the colour scheme was too homogenous. So, I decreased the corresponding number of beads (see pictures below) and used this narrowed-down bangle als a peyote starter strip for a new beginning.

Jetzt kann es also losgehen... * Ready to go ...

... where the old dragon sleeps

Over the mountains and seas
To the old hill
Where the old dragon sleeps
(The Bard's Song - The Hobbit, Blind Guardian)

* I beaded this Smaug from beads when watching the extended versions of the Hobbit trilogy and the numerous extras on the making of. The pattern is "Saphira" by fantasiabeads.de and you can find the beads I used below. I did not make the scales as the pattern called for i. e. in a similar manner as the wings. When beading the wings, two beads broke. I was not keen on repeating breaking beads on the head ... Plus I like the simpler scales very much as well!

Smaug has already imbibed the Arkenstone ;)

* I have further plans for beading projects. I still like peyote beadweaving in particular quite much.
