Norah Gaughan's Knitted Cable Sourcebook

* Ich besitze einige Strickbücher, darunter auch viele Zopfmuster-Sammlungen. Brauche ich dann wirklich noch eine neue Zopfmuster-Sammlung? Die Bilder im Internet, die man vom neuen Buch von Norah Gaughan anschauen konnte sahen aber so vielversprechend aus, so dass ich es doch bestellt habe.
* I own several knitting books, a lot of cable stitch pattern books are among them. Do I really Need another cable pattern Collection? However, the photos of the new book by Norah Gaughan you could see online looked so promising that I had to order it.

* Was ist das Besondere an diesem Buch?
* What is so special about this book?

• Es ist kein reines Musterbuch. Neben 152 Zopfmustern enthält es auch Anleitungen für 15 Kleidungsstücke.
• It is not only a stitch pattern book. Apart from 152 cable stitch patterns, it contains 15 patterns for garments.

• Zu einigen Mustern gibt es immer wieder Hinweise, wie sie auf der Rückseite aussehen und somit auf beiden Seiten schön sind (z. B. gut geeignet für Schals).
• Regarding some of the stitch patterns, it is shown how they look on the back side of the knitting. Those look good on front and back and, thus, are reversible (e.g. they are quite suitable for scarves).
• Zu allen Mustern wird angegeben, wie viele Maschen man benötigen würden, wenn man glatt rechts strickt (SSE = Stockinette stitch equivalent). Das ist sehr hilfreich, wenn man z. B. nur die Vorderseite eines Pullovers mit einem Muster versehen möchte, die Rückseite aber glatt rechts stricken möchte. Für Zöpfe benötigt man ja meist mehr Maschen.
• For all patterns the stockinette stitch equivalent (SSE) is indicated. This is quite helpful if you want to knit the front side of a sweater with a cable pattern and the back side in stockinette stitch only. The cables usually require more stitches.

• Bei einigen Zopfmustern wird gezeigt, wie durch kleinere Änderungen neue Muster entstehen. Dies regt dazu an auch selbst mal ein wenig zu experimentieren.
• Here and there, the book shows how slight changes give rise to new stitch patterns. It encourages to experiment on your own as well.
